The locker partnership with cycle studio operator Psycle is still wheeling ahead as the locker specialists install lockers at the fourth site. Since opening its first site in London’s Mortimer Street in 2014, Psycle has specified Crown for locker provision in stripped-back, minimalist styling. Canary Wharf followed, then Shoreditch and Clapham, where Crown fitted matt-white clothes lockers in male and female changing areas as well as a dozen in the waiting area for members arriving already kitted for exercise.
The success of Mortimer Street has sparked an expansion of the site, with Crown recently fitting three-tier male and female changing areas, with a stack of lockers in two waiting areas. Psycle have rung the changes on locking systems, says Spencer Grimwood, the Crown project manager dedicated to the operator’s requirements from day one. “They wanted to veer away from the digital locking systems specified on previous projects,” he explains. “If digital locks fail, we have to take off the door, whereas the mechanical combination locks we’ve fitted in the Mortimer Street extension need less maintenance. There’s nothing to break and no batteries to replace.”
