Changing room specialists Crown Sports Lockers have gained accreditation from The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) – an endorsement that allows the Made in Britain manufacturer to strengthen both its own and its clients’ environmental credentials.
The FSC is an independent, non-governmental body set up to promote environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests.
In the 26 years since its formation, the Council has certified more than 200 million hectares of forest in more than 80 countries worldwide.
Its vision is that the world’s forests are responsibly used to “fulfil the social, environmental and economic needs of the present generation, without compromising those of future generations”.
Forest owners and managers seeking FSC endorsement must adhere to ten principles and criteria before it can receive an FSC forest management certification. These include preserving natural resources such as protected and ancient woodland and looking after indigenous populations.
Crown’s FSC accreditation confirms that its suppliers have sourced wood and associated products from FSC-certified sources and offers their clients with full chain of custody to ensure end products are FSC certified.
“Gaining FSC accreditation is another key step in our mission to become a fully sustainable manufacturer,” said Nigel Porter, Crown’s Production Manager, “and to help our clients in boosting their own green credentials.
“Private and public sector clients alike increasingly seek assurance that products we install in their sites meet sustainability norms. The FSC certification confirms that our products – from board and veneers to solid wood, edging and dowels – comply with the FSC’s criteria.”
Clients will not have to pay the price for Crown’s heightened status as a sustainable manufacturer, Nigel confirmed. “FSC accreditation does not incur or impose a levy or charge on the client. We will not be raising prices because of the award.”
Crown source all its panel products from UK sustainable sources and all its chipboard is fabricated in UK factories.
