Genting Casinos first hotel and resort in the UK opened this spring, resplendent with luxury boutique hotel housing an inspirational spa conceived and designed by Spa Creators, with treatment rooms and changing areas installed by Crown Sports Lockers.
Beautiful cultural combinations
The Malaysian operator commissioned the spa designers and consultancy to conceive dry and wet leisure provision for the hotel, which embraces spa, treatment rooms, gym and changing areas. Based within the NEC, Genting Hotel forms part of the Resorts World Birmingham entertainment complex boasting the largest casino in the UK, shopping mall, bars and restaurants and 11-screen cinema.
After successfully tendering for the project, Crown Sports Lockers worked closely with Spa Creators, which handled the project from procurement phase through to handover.
“The vision was to provide a fusion of Malaysian/European gender neutral wellness facility,” said Alistair Johnson, Spa Creators Managing Director, “with a balanced ambience of relaxation and clinical setting in a design that united these two environments.”
The facilities include Santai Spa, offering hands-on treatment, relaxation and facial treatments, 15m pool, outdoor hot tub, sauna, salt cave and experience shower, plus EF Medispa providing body conditioning treatments.
Crowns high-quality input
Crown supplied lockers and treatment room furniture finished throughout in a colour-matched stain on solid ash timber and ash veneer.
Locker doors were solid shaker framed, with upholstered centre panel insert and wrist strap-operated Ojmar OTS locks.
Wet vanity units with Corian top and spray-painted base frame units were supplied to the client’s RAL colour specification, fitted alongside ample capacity towel units.
Set up eight years ago by spa specialist Alistair Johnson (now Managing Director), Spa Creators serves the owner-operated luxury boutique, high-end hotel niche primarily – sites typically offering their clients a selection of five to 15 treatment rooms with a wet spa area.
Johnson has masterminded more than 35 UK and mainland European projects since moving into the spa sector in 1995, creating concepts to meet often exacting parameters.
Installations Carbis Bay Hotel & Spa, Woodland Spa and Spa Sirene at the Royal Yacht Club Hotel all received accolades from The Good Spa Guide 2015, while other key clients include Ellenborough Park, Bannatynes Health Clubs and The Mere Golf Resort & Spa premier golf and country club in Cheshire.
At the upper end of their target market, the Genting Casinos project includes 13 treatment rooms, and saw Spa Creators on site for nearly two years.
Some kind words about the project
Alistair Johnson said: “Our philosophy is to develop longlasting partnerships and we have worked with Crown Sports Lockers on a number of projects. They are always competitively priced, offering great value for the customer without compromising quality.
“Flexible to work alongside, they will amend specifications when needed to deliver a scheme, also providing expert input when they believe it is required.”
“We have worked closely with Spa Creators on their projects,” said Sam Palmer, Crown Sports Lockers’ project manager. “The installations are always different, with each project requiring specific problem-solving, from operational considerations to a cost engineering exercise to meet a budget overspend.”
He concluded: “This we do without compromising quality or the original concept.” Such challenges were ones that Crown Sports Lockers relished and excelled at, he said, “adding up to an interesting and varied work day and job satisfaction.”
