We recently had the pleasure of installing top-of-the-range lockers at St Gabriel’s School, Sandleford Priory, Newbury, Berkshire. St Gabriel’s celebrated their 90th anniversary back in 2019 and is a school that offers an innovative and inspiring education to children from the age of 6 months to 18 years. With over 400 pupils, this private school has a large locker requirement across the whole school – especially so in the last few years. We were privileged to have had the opportunity to work on this project. We were delighted to have the opportunity to attend the Independent Schools’ Bursars Association (ISBA) conference in May 2022, which brings together many of the independent education sector’s leading experts, all in one place. This was an invite-only event, so we were fortunate to have been asked. We picked up numerous leads, and St Gabriel’s School was one of them, where we met the school’s bursar, Penny Setter. The project was completed during the school holidays to limit the amount of disruption, ready for the influx of new students in the new Autumn term.

Manufacturing and Installing Top-of-the-Range Lockers for Over 30 Years
Most of us can remember the hassle of carrying bags, books, clothes and other paraphernalia around with us when lockers were not present in schools. Back in the ‘80s, most of us had an old-fashioned wooden desk to store our belongings. Crown Sports Lockers have been manufacturing and installing wooden lockers in schools and other educational settings for over 30 years. We can offer both bespoke and standard design wooden storage locker options to primary schools, high schools, colleges, academies and universities.
Our top-of-the-range lockers were installed in 10 different classrooms at St Gabriel’s. We initially supplied a quote to the school, then Crown Sports Director, Sam Palmer visited them, before the work was started.
Sam commented: “After a few meetings and a bit of back and forth, a design was agreed upon. A sample locker was taken to the school, which was approved. We fitted banks of bespoke holdall lockers into various classrooms. All were generally about the same size but had to be tweaked slightly due to the difference in the widths in various rooms. The lockers were finished in an Egger pearl grey laminate, and all doors were fitted with a padlock attachment. We also retrofitted some existing lockers with the same locking system just to bring them up-to-date. Approximately 100 locks were fitted to some existing lockers to match the new ones.
It was a nice job, which was well received and installed on time over the summer holidays in 2022.“

We’re pleased to announce that we’re going to be exhibiting at the Independent Schools’ Bursars Association (ISBA) conference 2023 again, which takes place from 23rd to 25th May!
Taking place at the Manchester Central Convention Centre, this conference brings together many of the independent education sector’s leading experts, offering topical updates for schools, plus networking opportunities and an exhibition of over 170 professional advisers and companies dedicated to providing high-quality services to the education sector.
Held over two and a half days, the event welcomes more than 500 bursars and senior management staff from independent schools every year. As the business managers of schools they are the key decision-makers in sourcing their school’s services and supplies. Our team will be there to exhibit our fantastic range of bespoke wooden lockers and ancillary products.
