King Edward VI School - Case Study - Crown Sports Lockers

Project Overview

King Edward VI School was originally opened in 1554, after William Capon left money in his will, to educate the poor in Southampton.  It is now a leading Independent Day School in Hampshire, with a reputation for outstanding academic results.

As experienced manufacturers of quality wooden school lockers, and a ‘Gold Preferred Supplier’ for the ISA (Independent Schools Association,) Crown Sports Lockers were elated to have been selected to design, manufacture and install new wooden school lockers for King Edward’s students.

Winning the Contract

Sam Palmer, a Director and Co-owner of Crown Sports Lockers stated “King Edward VI School found us through an online search.  The initial telephone enquiry led to us arranging a site meeting to discuss their requirements, and review the areas where the wooden school lockers were to be situated.  The first draft of layouts were drawn up, and the quotation finalised.  However, the initial plans were revised, and changed earlier this year to concentrate on a different area of the school.  We amended the details, eventually commencing manufacturing and installing the lockers in summer 2023 as requested.”

Durable, Strong Wooden School Lockers

Crown Sports Lockers have been in business for over 30 years, and are experienced in providing more than simply sports lockers.  Having designed, manufactured and installed superior wooden lockers for many prestigious independent schools in the UK, they are highly sought after to provide classroom lockers, cloakroom lockers, gym changing rooms, primary school lockers, academy/secondary school lockers and college/university lockers within the independent school sector.  Design and manufacturing takes place in their factory in Devon, allowing them to monitor quality control at all times, and their installation team are skilled and knowledgeable.  Wood is responsibly sourced, and they are accredited with the ‘Made in Britain’ standard.

The Installation at King Edward VI School

The installation process was undertaken by a team of Crown Sports Lockers’ competent fitters, taking all of the client’s requirements into consideration.  Sam confirmed “We were commissioned to provide 204 holdall lockers, each with an internal shelf for student’s ring binders.  For each bank of 6 holdall lockers, we supplied a hockey stick unit in a matching finish.  Locker interiors and décor panels were in a plain black finish, with contrasting oak-effect doors, finished with plywood effect edges.

Lockers were fitted with padlock attachments and red & white discs with white text.  Locker doors were fitted using a bolt-through hinge system for added peace of mind.

Whilst our contract for the lockers was arranged directly with the client, we worked alongside the locally appointed main contractor, SM5 developments, who were tasked with carrying out a larger refurbishment project of the school facilities during the same summer period.
